Welcome to the internet home of the D. C. Everest Fuel Cell Project.

The D. C. Everest Fuel Cell project is a independant study project being performed by three Everest seniors - Curt Barr, Steven Merrill, and Jordan Olson. Their advisor is Mr. William Heeren, an honors chemistry teacher.

The goals of the project can be summed up in this abstract:

Our project entails the design, construction, and application of a H2-Air PEM Fuel Cell system. The cell will be fueled by compressed hydrogen gas, and air flow. The only byproduct of this reaction is pure water, making them environmentally friendly. First we will build and test a prototype, then we will fine tune our design for a larger fuel cell. The final stage will be incorporating the cell into an environmentally friendly source of transportation.

Project News:

1/26/00 - Our Web presence has been lost for quite some time due to an unfortunate mishap, but much has occured since October. We have three sponsors now - WF&L, Wisconsin Public Service, and the Wausau Community foundation. We are very grateful to each of these sponsors for their support. We are also currently collaborating with W.L. Gore to redesign our fuel cell to increase power output and safety. We would like to thank Dr. Simon Cleghborn from Gore and the AGA corporation for their support in this ongoing development process. We hope to begin demonstrating our fuel cell around the area in February.

10/1/99 - We have a corporate sponsor! Jim Rosenberg of Wisconsin Fuel and Light has graciously agreed to donate funding to allow us to complete the first prototype of our fuel cell. WF&L's generous donation will allow us to purchase bipolar plating to complete the protoype cell. Many thanks to Wisconsin Fuel and Light for supporting environmental projects in our community.
